MULTIMEDIA PRODUCT
I created a video tutorial that demonstrates the process I embark when creating an instructional video using
Camtasia. There are many benefits of creating screencasts to reach remote learners, the main one is being able
to create personalized instructional videos. I can create videos that meet the needs of individual learners, group
of learners, or videos that benefit all my learners.
Since I upload my videos to a website I created, my learners can watch my videos any time and any place, and
thus are able to quickly grasp the concepts I teach.
How I Create Instructional Videos Using Camtasia
PRESENTATION
This is my LMS created in Canvas.
My introductory videos have been exponentially helpful to all my learners.
In addition to Canvas, I am also well versed in different LMS such as Blackboard, Seesaw, and Articulate.
“Buddy Scholar” is my self-created website where I currently host over 100 instructional videos.
I provide rich academic online instruction that has been proven to increase student learning.
Personal Learning Statement
There are certain skills I have learned over the course of my lifetime. One of these skills is a strong knowledge in
educational pedagogy. The administration at the bilingual Title I campus where I first taught, made it a priority
for teachers to get trained in instructional pedagogy and delve deeper in understanding educational best
practices such as those proposed by Robert Marzano.
The extensive training I received those first years of teaching helped me understand my bilingual learners
better. Over time I started incorporating my own teaching pedagogy which is based on using technology to help
me solve problems in creative ways.
Technology isn’t just an afterthought to me, rather it is an important factor that allows me to successfully
provide rich instructional content that benefits all my learners. I have been in positions where I was against all
odds, but in the end my learners have shown tremendous academic growth that will sustain them for years to
come.

Need for Project
During our current time where educational institutions have seen an increase in remote learners, some teachers
have become dependent on apps and software such as Dreambox and Education Galaxy to replace mathematical
instruction, thereby negating the best practice of providing personalized instruction.
The personalized instruction that teachers provide to their learners cannot be easily replaced by apps that rely
heavily on repeated mathematical problems. Instead of relying on apps such as Dreambox and Education
Galaxy, teachers can broaden their technological literacy by using software such as Camtasia to create
personalized instructional videos. Teachers can put their own individuality into their videos, which is something
that an app can’t easily replicate.
This is one of the main reasons why I call my Capstone Project –
Online Teaching is More Than Just an App: How I Create Instructional Videos Using Camtasia
My Capstone Project is extremely valuable to instructors in any field, but as a current instructor at a Title I
school, I modified my Capstone Project to be accessible to my fourth grade learners so they can demonstrate
the knowledge they have acquired in my math class by creating instructional videos to be watched by my other
learners that need extra tutoring. The power of peer-to-peer tutoring is a strategy that has been researched by
Robert J. Marzano. I am essentially taking my Capstone Project and modifying it so that my fourth grade
bilingual learners can independently create math instructional videos and take the role of an instructor.

Instruction
Instructional Goal
Upon successful completion of this instruction, the learners in my “Pink Group” from my fourth grade advanced
math class will be able to record math instructional videos using a Sony handheld camcorder that demonstrates
how to multiply three digits by one digit, how to multiply four digits by one digit, how to do long division without
remainders, and how to do long division with remainders.

ABOUT ME
My name is Jorge Mendoza and I love integrating technology with the vast knowledge I have acquired in instructional
pedagogy. The passion I have in technology and teaching led me to find the Master’s program in Curriculum and
Instruction - Learning, Design, and Technology at University of Houston. The program has allowed me to learn even more
about different software and applications I can incorporate in my daily life as an instructor.
I have been incorporating technology since the inception of my teaching career, and it has been proven to increase student
learning. My learners benefit from the academic instruction I provide, whether it’s online or face-to-face. I have used
different technological tools to accomplish specific tasks, from automation to LMS platforms, and I’ll continue to blend my
knowledge in technology with instructional pedagogy to increase student learning.
